Celebrating Yalda Night

Yalda  is one of the most ancient Persian festivals,in that night  Iranians celebrate the arrival  of winter ,the reneval of the sun and  the victory of light over darkness.

Ancient  Iranians known Yalda as a thanksgiving  celebration  since they believed  that from that night on the lord’s light spread over the earth much more than before.

In addition to Iran, Central Asian countries such as Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and some Caucasian states such as Azerbaijan and Armenia celebrate Yalda Night annually .

Celebrations Yalda may get families to gather around each other(most often in the house of the eldest member)

Dried nuts, watermelon and pomegranate are served, classic poetry and old mythologies are read aloud.people also read Hafez at this night,who is a famous Persian poet.

Iranians believe those who begin winter by eating summer fruits would not fall ill during the cold seasons,Therefore eating watermelons is one of the most important traditions in this night
